In keeping with the spirit of the flagship Fresh Coast Film Festival in Marquette – which commissions a different Midwest visual artist each year to create unique designs celebrating the outdoor lifestyle, water-rich environment, and resilient spirit of the Great Lakes – FCFF/tc is unveiling the 2026 design from Michigan-born artist Geoffrey Holstad.

By introducing the inaugural spring festival, Holstad celebrates the emergence from winter hibernation with a playful, throwback aesthetic highlighting beloved northern Michigan iconography in waves, sunshine, paddles, the Manitou Islands, and Petoskey stones in vibrant hues of blue.

Inspired by adventure brochures, and nature guides, Holstad’s Limited-Edition Art Print features a bold collage style on the front and an illustrated guide to various birds of the Boardman watershed on the back.

Holstad is a Michigan-born art director, designer, lake surfer, and trail runner who currently lives most of the year in the small, mystic mountain town of Ojai, California. He has worked for over a decade as a Senior Art Director on product at Patagonia, focusing primarily on Trail Running, Mountain Bike, and Kids products. At Patagonia and in his off-hours, Holstad has collaborated with dozens of grassroots environmental organizations on creative strategy-building, many based in his heart’s home of the Great Lakes. Prior to working at Patagonia, he founded and directed Cabin-Time (501c3), a roaming creative residency to remote places.

Holstad and his wife Sarah Darnell (a fellow Michigan-born Patagonia designer) will be attending the festival and return often to visit their Leelanau County cabin with their two daughters. They are inspired to be part of thoughtfully preserving Leelanau’s natural landscapes, and to be working and playing in Michigan at the confluence of art, sport, and environmental action.
