For over 100 years, the Northern Michigan Asylum - later renamed the Traverse City State Hospital - served over 50,000 patients on a campus of over 50 buildings on more than 1,000 acres. The story of the Northern Michigan Asylum and The Village at Grand Traverse Commons redevelopment is central to the history of Traverse City. In this 60-minute tour, learn firsthand the history of its most prominent building - Building 50 - and tour the amazing 1885 brick steam tunnels. You’ll also get to visit one of the unrenovated buildings on the property for a glimpse of the past - and future projects yet to come!
Presented with support from The Minervini Group
